Tickets are now available for the Hilo Medical Center Foundation’s 10th annual “Wine, Cheese, Chocolate and More!” fundraiser. The benefit will be held Sunday, Nov. 4, from 4-7 p.m. at the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel’s Moku Ola Room.

Hilo Hawaiian’s new executive chef, Khamtan Tanhchaleun, will lend his talent to create special appetizers for local physician waiters to serve.

The physicians will be competing in a “guys vs. gals” attempt to raise the most tips while serving appetizers made with fresh ingredients from local farmers, ranchers and cheese-makers.

There will be five wine-tasting stations and a beer-tasting station. Master Sommelier Patrick Okubo, who is a certified wine educator and specialist of spirits, will share his knowledge about wine. Okubo is one of only three Master Sommeliers in the state and the second youngest out of 186 in the world.

Guest Chef Ernesto will be on hand again, with cheeses, olive oils and a selection of balsamic vinegar. There will be lots of chocolate candies to nibble, and attendees can dip strawberries and pineapple in white, milk or dark chocolate fountains. Non-alcoholic beverages will also be available.

“We are grateful for all of the donations coming in to make our 10th anniversary of our wine and cheese event are really special one,” said Foundation Executive Director Lori Rogers. “In addition to local produce, we have received artwork, jewelry, hotel stays and golf packages for our silent and live auctions.”

Rogers said honorary board member Fred Koehnen is donating a 54-inch table with contrasting koa inlay and an upholstered Koa storage bench lined with sandalwood.

“Thanks to the Foundation Board and volunteers, our wildly popular fundraiser gets bigger and better every year,” Rogers said.

“It’s important to note that in addition to the fun, fine wine and food there will be the more serious business of welcoming the new physicians who have begun practicing in Hilo during the past year,” she said. “We will also honor the Hawaii County Medical Society’s Physician of the Year.”

Tickets are available for $55 in advance at the Most Irresistable Shop, the Foundation office, Grapes and Kadota Liquors. If available, tickets will be on sale for $65 at the door. For more information, call the Foundation office at 935-2957.
